It was a hot and steamy afternoon,
we’re yet used to these type of days.
I forced myself to the back porch, drawn
by the beauty of the sun setting through the trees.
Then the glow that was promised was delivered,
yellow to orange, then plum to blue.
And I relaxed, assured of a cooling breeze,
comforted by the call of mockingbirds.
I had almost forgotten the promise,
now I remember what it does for me.
“Come all you that are tired and heavy laden,
and I will give you rest.” Amen.
